2014 Buick Lineup Offers Active Safety Suite

DETROIT – Every 2014 Buick model – Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore and Enclave – will be offered with a suite of available active safety systems that watch the front, side and rear of the vehicle to help prevent crashes.
Buick will be the only brand in the industry to offer Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Warning, and a Rear Vision Camera on every vehicle.
Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are a pair of technologies that use a single forward-looking camera to read traffic and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignaled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Warning use radar to watch spots the driver may not see – and provide visible and audible warnings to help prevent collisions.
When the vehicle is in reverse and the Rear Vision Camera is active, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will flash a red icon and directional arrow if another vehicle is approaching from either side, which is especially useful backing out of a tight driveway or parking space in a busy lot.
Side Blind Zone Alert detects other vehicles in a Buick’s blind spot and alerts the driver with a yellow icon on the glass of either side view mirror. If a turn signal is engaged while a vehicle is detected in the next lane, the icon flashes to discourage merging.
“Striking design, uncompromised comfort and purposeful safety technology – those are the core attributes of every Buick,” said Tony DiSalle, vice president of Buick Marketing. “Our 2014 lineup will tell an active safety story exclusive to the Buick brand and, more importantly, one that helps protect our drivers and passengers better than ever before.”
Passive safety is equally important to Buick. Although 2014 models have not been rated, every 2013 Buick model available today has been designated as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Current Buick models make extensive use of high strength steel and, with the Verano compact luxury sedan and Encore luxury small crossover, offer as many as 10 standard air bags.

The Enclave luxury crossover comes standard with the industry’s first front center air bag, which helps protect drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes. It deploys from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and positions itself between the driver and front passenger, offering protection that no other airbag can offer.

Buick sheds its image as a brand for the elderly

Buick sheds its image as a brand for the elderly
New products help automaker reduce average buyer age by 6 years
BY MELISSA BURDEN / THE DETROIT NEWS

General Motors Co.'s Buick brand did something over the past five years that no other automaker did in the
U.S.: It lowered the average age of its customer.
In an industry that from 2007 to 2011 saw its average customer age grow by three years to 51, Buick's
average customer's age fell from 62 to 59, according to market researcher R.L. Polk. & Co.

"They've changed their product portfolio, they're discounting the Lucerne — and the Regal has done quite
well and they're targeting it toward a younger customer," said Tom Libby, a senior automotive analyst for
Polk. Still, Buick has the second-highest average customer age, behind Lincoln. "Also the Verano was just
introduced and is targeted toward a younger customer," Libby noted.
Buick no longer wants to be known for gray-haired drivers in mundane sedans. The brand's own marketing
research shows an even more dramatic fall than Polk's numbers — from age 65 to 59 over five years. And
that age continues to fall.

Buick executives and analysts say the brand is reaching younger and new-to-GM customers through the
compact Verano sedan that launched in December (the average customer age is 57, but is trending down)
and the Regal, including its GS performance model. A Regal GS customer on average is 43 years old,
according to Buick.
More new products are on the way that could help drive that average age even lower. A turbo Verano with
an optional manual transmission will be available for the 2013 model year, and Buick's all-new 2013 Encore
crossover hits dealer lots early next year. Libby said Buick will win customers with the Encore, as the
compact crossover segment "tends to appeal to a younger demographic in general."
But more importantly, some at Buick and GM say, is that 41 percent of Buick buyers are new to the brand.
Chris Dawkins, 31, of Southfield is young and new to Buick.
"I don't look at Buick as an older person's brand any longer," said Dawkins, who last week leased a whitediamond
2012 Regal GS for four years, trading in a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T.
Dawkins, a human resources manager, husband and father of two, said he loves the Regal GS for its
European looks and its manual transmission. "The Regal just caught my attention," he said. "The regular
version Regal is pretty nice, but when I saw the GS, it really drew me in."

Borcherding Buick GMC Tips to Improve Gas Mileage

Tips To Improve Gas Mileage

Regular maintenance such as tune-ups, oil changes and tire rotations go a long way toward preventing breakdowns before they happen. Routine maintenance will not only boost your vehicle’s reliability and resale value but also save fuel.
Pay attention to the little things:

  • A car wash does more than just clean your car. Regular washing, especially the underbody makes an enormous difference in a car’s longevity. Brake-fluid and fuel lines run along a car’s underbody and are highly susceptible to dirt, water, salt and, therefore, rust.
  • Take note if your car starts to sputter, stall or have other strange symptoms. Auto repair shops advise that you keep a detailed log of any problems and the conditions under which they occur – such as the weather or speed at which you were traveling. This detail will help your mechanic diagnose the problem.
  • Monitor tire inflation and mileage to save money at the gas pump and in the repair shop. Proper tire inflation helps you get better gas mileage. In addition, fuel efficiency is often the first warning sign of a problem, so monitoring your mileage can catch a problem before it gets too big (and expensive).
  • If your engine light flashes, stop the car as soon as possible. Driving even a few miles with an engine problem can wreak havoc on your car. A tow shop will almost always cost less than fixing the damage caused by driving with a faulty engine.
Never underestimate the value of regular maintenance:
  • Have your car checked by a professional before extended road trips. Have the mechanic look at the belts, hoses, filters, tires, fluid levels, wiper blades, lights and battery.
  • Never ignore regular oil changes – which should be done every 3,000 – 4,000 miles on most cars. Check your owner’s manual to see if your car has a specific oil type, and make sure your mechanic uses that type.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s service schedule. Annual, biannual and mileage-based preventative maintenance is intended to give technicians the chance to uncover any problems in the early stages. As well, if a technician tries to pressure you into buying a service your manufacturer doesn’t recommend, chances are you don’t need it.
Develop responsible habits:
  • Drive smoothly. Cars that are driven gently last longer and experience fewer problems. Don’t race from red light to red light. Avoid sharp turns, slamming on the brakes and other habits that put stress on your car.
  • Avoid driving on a low tank of gas. Your fuel pump is located in the gas tank. Sediment from gasoline can settle in the bottom of your tank. When you run your car on low fuel, the pump can pick up the sediment and become damaged.

Buick Looking to Get Younger, Adds New Models with Pizzazz

Buick Looking to Get Younger, Adds New Models with Pizzazz

September 1st, 2011

Buick is working hard to shed its image of the “old guy car.” No longer a brand that whisks grandparents to bingo and doctors’ appointments, it now offers luxurious, high-end and even sporty sedans and crossovers aimed at the pre-Medicare generation.
Buick will build on its rebranding over the next few years, redesigning many models and introducing new ones. In all, Buick will retool or introduce six different models starting in 2013, and expect the brand to take on a completely new look by the 2016 model year. With all of these changes Buick will go through, parent company GM hopes to continue attracting a younger demographic, but without alienating Buick’s “traditional” buyer.
2011 Buick Verano: The first compact Buick in more than 20 years, the Verano goes on sale this fall. The Acura TSX-fighter will come standard with GM’s IntelliLink infotainment system, and is based on the same mechanical underpinnings as the Chevy Cruze.
  • 177-hp Ecotec 2.4-liter engine
  • 17-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels come standard. Optional 18-inch wheels available.
  • Estimated fuel economy: 22 mpg city/31 mpg highway
2013 Buick Encore: Seen as a “baby Enclave,” the Encore five-seat compact crossover is expected to join Buick’s line-up for the 2013 model year. While details are still slim, especially for a vehicle that’s only a year away, here’s what we know:
  • Will be built on Chevy’s Gamma platform, the same one that the new Sonic will be perched on. Translation: It will be small.
  • Expected to compete against Acura’s RDX and the Infiniti EX
2012 Buick Regal: Expected to be launched in the fall, the Regal will have a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine churning out 270 hp, or the option of eAssist. GM is also weighing its options to put a Regal wagon on the road in China and it hasn’t gotten the go-ahead here in the U.S either.
  • Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed transmission
  • Optional eAssist mild hybrid system available
2012 Buick LaCrosse: Buick’s eAssist, a mild hybrid system, debuts on the 2012 LaCrosse, improving fuel economy by up to 25 percent. We expect eAssist to make its way across all Buick models in the coming years. The LaCrosse will be redesigned and is expected to be made available to the public for the 2013 model year.
  • A new grille, hood, and rear tailgate will be added for 2013
  • 2.4-liter engine will be combined with a small electric motor
2012 Buick Enclave: This three-row crossover first appeared in Buick’s line-up in 2008. Expect a facelift in 2013 and a new generation surfacing around 2015.
2013 Buick Astra: This small compact is expected to be added to Buick’s line-up for the 2013 model year. Buick is weighing its options on bringing a three-door rebadged version of the Opel Astra to the U.S., thus far there’s no definite launch date. Originally planned to be inserted to Saturn’s line-up, the Astra would share a front-drive platform with the Verano.
