2014 Buick Lineup Offers Active Safety Suite

DETROIT – Every 2014 Buick model – Verano, Regal, LaCrosse, Encore and Enclave – will be offered with a suite of available active safety systems that watch the front, side and rear of the vehicle to help prevent crashes.
Buick will be the only brand in the industry to offer Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Warning, and a Rear Vision Camera on every vehicle.
Forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning are a pair of technologies that use a single forward-looking camera to read traffic and lane markers on the road ahead. Visual warnings and audible tones alert the driver to unsignaled lane changes or a slowed vehicle.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Warning use radar to watch spots the driver may not see – and provide visible and audible warnings to help prevent collisions.
When the vehicle is in reverse and the Rear Vision Camera is active, Rear Cross Traffic Alert will flash a red icon and directional arrow if another vehicle is approaching from either side, which is especially useful backing out of a tight driveway or parking space in a busy lot.
Side Blind Zone Alert detects other vehicles in a Buick’s blind spot and alerts the driver with a yellow icon on the glass of either side view mirror. If a turn signal is engaged while a vehicle is detected in the next lane, the icon flashes to discourage merging.

Passive safety is equally important to Buick. Although 2014 models have not been rated, every 2013 Buick model available today has been designated as a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Current Buick models make extensive use of high strength steel and, with the Verano compact luxury sedan and Encore luxury small crossover, offer as many as 10 standard air bags.

The Enclave luxury crossover comes standard with the industry’s first front center air bag, which helps protect drivers and front passengers in far-side impact crashes. It deploys from the inboard side of the driver’s seat and positions itself between the driver and front passenger, offering protection that no other airbag can offer.

Buick Enclave named top midsize crossover in quality study

The Buick Enclave, among a trio of crossover vehicles produced at General Motors Co.’s Lansing Delta Township assembly plant, was named the top midsize crossover in this year’s Initial Quality Study by market research firm J.D. Power and Associates.
The Enclave is the only locally produced vehicle to earn honors in the study, released Wednesday. It measures vehicle appeal and design and production quality. Among large crossovers, the Ford Expedition topped a segment GM historically has won.
GM earned a total of four awards.
The Enclave “performed at an exceptional level this year,” said David Sargent, J.D. Power’s vice president of global automotive.
J.D. Power, based in Westlake Village, Calif., has issued the study for 26 years as a gauge of quality among new vehicles. This year, 26 of the 34 measured brands improved and overall quality increased by about 5 percent from a year ago, to 102 problems per 100 vehicles, the firm said.
“The industry is producing better-quality vehicles than it has ever done in the past,” Sargent said, adding that the rate of improvement is the fastest since 2009. “This year’s vehicles are even better than last year’s.”
Customers increasingly are reporting problems with their vehicles’ multimedia systems, according to the study. Problems with hands-free technology systems, in particular, are up 137 percent in the last four years.

If you’re shopping based entirely on getting the lowest monthly payment, take a look at the number-one rated Ford Escape, which offers a payment of $159 for 24 months, with a down payment of $2,868. For the same $159 monthly payment you could also choose to lease the Ford Fusion or Chevrolet Cruze for 24 months with down payments of $2648 or $1,879, respectively.

Also priced down there with extremely affordable monthly payments are the $22,870 Chevy Malibu and $20,500 Ford Focus, which offer 24 lease payments of  $179 or $169 with down payments of  $1589 or $2398, respectively.

If you’re looking to lease something with no money down, new-car shoppers have a choice between the Honda Civic or the Buick Verano which offer 24 monthly payments of $220 or $299. This option allows shoppers to choose between a $19,395 midsize sedan or $23,470 full-size sedan with no money down for just a $79 difference in the monthly payment.

For the same monthly payment as the Verano, the number-two best value on this list is the $37,175 Buick Enclave premium sport utility vehicle, which can be leased for 24 payments of $299 with $2199 down.

If you’re shopping for something larger or more luxurious and don’t mind spending a bit more each month, the choices expand. The $34,920 Ford Explorer can be leased for 24 payments of $329 with a down payment of $3748. Or you could choose the elegant Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec sedan for a monthly least payment of $579 — putting you into the seat of a $52,595 luxury sedan for 24 months at a total out-of-pocket expense of $17,769.
